I'm Conrad, a qualified British English teacher living in Prague for over twelve years.
I hold a PGDE in English Literature and Language Education from University of Strathclyde and a Master's degree in Creative Writing from University of Glasgow. Unlike most English tutors who simply have TEFL certificates, I have formal university-level teaching qualifications and advanced language training. This means I understand not just what to teach, but how people actually learn languages.
What makes my background unique is that I'm also a professional writer. I'm a screenwriter with a television series currently in post-production for an Emmy-nominated studio, and I'm a novelist represented by a major London literary agency. This professional writing career gives me deep expertise in English grammar, style, and usage at the highest level – knowledge I bring directly into my teaching.
I've been teaching English as a foreign language since 2008 across Scotland, England, and the Czech Republic. I've worked in secondary schools, language academies, EU-funded educational programs, and extensively in one-to-one private tutoring. My specialty is personalized instruction where I can focus entirely on your individual needs and goals.
Having spent over a decade in Prague, I have particular understanding of Czech learners' challenges with English. Articles, prepositions, phrasal verbs, pronunciation patterns – I've helped hundreds of students master these exact difficulties.
Outside of teaching, I'm usually writing (obviously!), exploring Prague's cafés, reading, or working on improving my Czech – which remains a work in progress and keeps me humble about the language learning journey!
I'm patient, encouraging, and genuinely enjoy helping people reach their English goals. Teaching isn't just a job for me – it's something I'm genuinely good at and passionate about.

My Teaching Approach -
I believe English learning should be practical and personalized. Every student has different goals and challenges, so I tailor each lesson specifically to you. My method is communicative and student-centered – you do most of the talking, not me. We focus on English you'll actually use in real life, whether that's business presentations, casual conversation, academic writing, or professional emails.
How a Typical Lesson Works -
Each lesson is structured but flexible. We start with a brief warm-up conversation, then move into the main content – grammar practice, vocabulary building, pronunciation work, reading comprehension, or conversation practice depending on your goals.
I correct errors constructively, explaining WHY something is incorrect and HOW to fix it. Understanding the logic behind grammar makes it easier to remember and use correctly.
We end with a quick review and often a small practice task for you to work on before our next session.

I'm patient and encouraging. Mistakes are essential to learning, so I create a relaxed environment where you can practice without fear. I'm also clear and direct – I explain grammar rules and language nuances in straightforward terms.
As a professional writer and screenwriter, I have deep expertise in English at every level. This means I can help whether you're a complete beginner or an advanced learner working on subtle nuances.
